Court Nullifies David Mark’s Election

A Court of Appeal, sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has nullified the election of former senate president, David Mark.

The court faulted the decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission to declare Mr. Mark, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, winner of the March 28 senatorial election in Benue south.

A rerun of the poll must be conducted within 90 days, the court ruled.

Mr. Mark’s purported victory was challenged by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Donald Onjeh.

Siasia’s Mother Regains Freedom From Kidnappers

The police have announced that they have successfully secured the release of Ogere Siasia, the mother of Dream Team VI coach, Samson Siasia, who was kidnapped two weeks ago in Bayelsa State.

The public relations officer of the Bayelsa State command of the Nigeria Police, Butswat Asinim, confirmed the release of the 72-year-old.

APC Replaces Faleke,Audu’s Son,Picks Yahaya Bello As New Governorship Candidate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has submitted the name of Yahaya Bello as the party’s new candidate for Kogi governorship supplementary poll.

Bello replaces Prince Abubakar Audu, who died last weekend after leading the poll with 41,000.

It was also learnt that the APC has retained Hon. James Abiodun Faleke as the party’s deputy governorship candidate.

Mohammed Audu, the son of the late governorship candidate, was dumped by the party because the party felt that fielding him might vitiate the entire governorship poll in the state.

But the people of Kogi West were mounting pressure on Faleke not to accept the nomination of Bello.

Although they asked Faleke to withdraw from the race, the deputy governorship candidate was yet to make up his mind on the next step at press time.

Didier Drogba Backs Arsenal To Win Premier League Title

Former Chelsea forward Didier Drogba has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League this season.

Drogba – speaking to promote his autobiography ‘Commitment’ – feels Manchester City will be strong contenders but has offered his support to Arsene Wenger’s side, who have his former Blues team-mate Petr Cech in goal.

“I think Manchester City will be as strong as they have been in the last few years,” Drogba told Sky Sports.

“Unfortunately Chelsea are too far [behind in the title race], so I will go for my friend Petr Cech at Arsenal.”

When asked if he thinks the Gunners have enough strength in depth to win the league, Drogba simply said: “They have got Petr Cech!”

As for Chelsea’s dreadful start to the season, which leaves them 15th in the table having already lost seven matches, Drogba admits Jose Mourinho’s side find themselves in an unfamiliar situation.

APC Leaders Nominates Abubakar Audu’s First Son To Replace Him As Governorship Candidate

Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Kogi East Senatorial District, have nominated Mohammed, 43, first son of Abubakar Audu, to replace his father as the party’s governorship candidate.

The senior Audu died on Sunday just as it became clear he was leading in the Kogi governorship election held Saturday.

The APC is to conduct a fresh primary to choose a replacement.

The Kogi leaders, who made their decision known in Lokoja on Thursday after a meeting, said they chose Mohammed Audu after due consultations.

MTN To Settle `Baba 2010’ N500m Copyright Suit Out Of Court

The multi-national telecommunication giant, MTN has commenced `out of court settlement’ process in a N500 million copyright suit filed against it by an Abuja based entertainer/artist, Omenuwoma Dovie a.k.a Baba 2010.

Counsel to Baba 2010, Rockson Igelige, made he disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja.

“We (Baba 2010 attorneys) met three days ago with MTN and steps are being taken to resolve the case out of court.

“Because we are dealing with figures, we will not want to disclose the details,” he said.

Baba 2010 had demanded N500 million damages from MTN for copyright violation of four of his original musical compositions and recordings.

According to his statement of claim dated Nov. 4 2015, MTN reproduced and stored the musician’s songs electronically.

How Abubakar Audu Won Kogi State Governorship Election.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar Audu, has emerged winner of the Kogi State Governorship election held on Saturday.

With results from the state’s 21 local governments now counted, Mr. Audu garnered 240, 867 votes as against the 199, 514 votes scored by his closest challenger, Ibrahim Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The APC candidate defeated the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate and incumbent governor, Mr. Wada, in 16 of the 21 local government areas in the state.
Mr. Audu has 41,353 more votes than Mr. Wada.

Tottenham Signs U-17 World Cup Star, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen

N25bn TSA Fraud: Senate Calls For Suspension Of Remittances

The Senate on Wednesday urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Ministry of Finance to suspend lodgments into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to allow investigation of alleged fraud in the system.

The upper chamber had in a motion moved by Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) raised alarm over alleged payment of N25 billion to one e-collection firm, REMITA, in one day as one per cent of monies transferred.

It resolved that suspension of payment into the TSA would ensure that no further money was taken by the company in the event that the allegations were found to be true.

You seem to have an affinity for comedies; why is that?

I wouldn’t call it affinity. Years ago, I found out that most of the scripts that were brought to me didn’t have comic relief; I was always given roles of a wicked man and I got to understand that most of my fans were not pleased with it. Some of them felt it was something real, and the consequence was that whenever I stepped out in public, I was caught in embarrassing situations. I then decided to be infusing comic relief even when I’m playing wicked characters because I’m a veteran  screen writer. In the early 80s, we were operating in NTA Enugu, which was formerly Anambra Television Channel 50, so the talent is there, and I combined it with the wicked roles they were giving me. The result is that when you are watching me play a wicked role, you will still have cause to laugh, and ease your tension. In fact, I have achieved a lot by doing that.

President Buhari Allots Portfolio To Ministers

President Buhari on Wednesday (Today) allot portfolio to ministers who were screened by the senate.

Former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola was appointed minister for Power, Works and Housing. Chris Ngige was appointed for Labour and Employment.

Muhammadu Bello is minister of state for power, works and housing.

Kemi Adeosun, former finance commissioner in Ogun is now the Minister of Finance while Audu Ogbe is appointed Minister for Agriculture and natural resources.

Buhari Slashes Federal Ministries To Twenty Five

AHEAD of Wednesday’s (today) inauguration of 36 ministers-designate, there were indications on Tuesday that President Muhammadu Buhari, had reduced the number of federal ministries to 25 from about 29.

Under the new dispensation, the ministries of police affairs, aviation and special duties appear to have been scrapped while ministries of Lands, Housing, Urban Development and Works have been merged to become Ministry of Works and Housing. Also, the information, culture, national orientation and tourism ministries have been collapsed into one Ministry of Information and Culture.

Cristiano Ronaldo Premieres His Film In London

From soccer pitch to red carpet, FIFA World Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo premiered his personal portrait film “Ronaldo” in London on Monday.

Ronaldo reunited with his former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson on the red carpet, which also saw a late arrival from Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

Posing with a line of fans, Ronaldo sought to break a selfie record upon arrival and was also awarded certificates for other Guinness World Records he had, including “most ‘liked’ person on Facebook”.

“The people who really know me, they are not going to be surprised about the movie,” Ronaldo told Reuters when asked about the film.

Headies Announces 2015 Date, Releases Guidelines

Organisers of The Headies Awards have announced that the 2015 ceremony and 1oth anniversary edition of the awards will hold on Wednesday December 30 at the Landmark Events Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Recall that The Headies had earlier unveiled the nominees of the 2015 edition, with Olamide leading the pack with eight nominations viz: Best Pop single, Rap Album, Best Collaboration (twice), Best Street-Hop Artiste, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Artiste of the Year which he will be contesting along with Davido, Wizkid, Yemi Alade, and P-Square.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the awards coordinator, Ayo Animashaun further released guidelines and timeline for this year’s award.

Buhari Fires EFCC Boss, Lamorde …Appoints Mustafa Magu

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday fired the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, thus bringing his reign as the country’s anti-graft tsar to an end amid fraud allegations.

The President called the EFCC boss into Aso Rock Presidential Villa and told him that his time was up, The PUNCH learnt.

Lamorde’s sacking came few weeks to the end of his four-year tenure. He would have completed his four-year term later this month.

Buhari To Swear In Ministers On Wednesday

President Muhammadu Buhari is to swear in members of his cabinet on Wednesday, a presidency statement said on Sunday, ending a five-month wait for a cabinet to be installed in Africa’s most populace nation.

The 72-year-old former military ruler, who was inaugurated in late May, has been criticised for waiting until September to name his ministers, who then underwent a month-long Senate vetting process. Portfolios will be assigned after ministers have been sworn in.

Lagos Lawmakers Disagree On Return Of Okada Riders To Highways

Some lawmakers in the Lagos State House of Assembly have disagreed on the return of motorcyclists popularly referred to as Okada riders to the major highways, where their operations have been restricted.

Moshood Oshun (APC) Lagos Mainland Consti-tuency II, said that he will not accept that the return of okada riders to the restricted areas is becoming an embarrassment, but that it is an embarrassment to the people of the state generally.
On his part, Victor Akande (PDP) Ojo Constituency I, said that the problem was created by the government during the electioneering period.
