Obasanjo, A Liar, Economic Illiterate – Soyinka

The Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has said that he has no respect for Obasanjo, who he described as an indescribable liar.
Soyinka carpeted the former president on Friday night when he was responding to questions during a programme tagged: ‘An evening with Wole Soyinka’, organised by Globacom.
Asked to respond to Obasanjo’s assessment of him in the former president’s book titled ‘My Watch’, where he notes that Soyinka is good at hunting and wines but a political illiterate, Soyinka said that he was hardly bothered because he believed that Obasanjo was a liar.
Soyinka said, “Obasanjo is entitled to his opinion. But the question is: ‘Who respects the opinion of a liar?’
I can spend the whole night proving that he is a liar. Obasanjo was once described by an economist, the late Prof Ojetunji Aboyade, as an economic illiterate. They nearly ‘went into blow’ that night. It was Prof. Mabogunje who separated them.
“So, if an economic illiterate calls somebody a political illiterate, no problem at all.

Fayose Appoints 72-Year-Old Carpenter LG Chairman

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a 72-year-old illiterate, Pa Olatunde Afolayan, as the caretaker chairman of Moba Local Government Area.
He also urged President Muhammadu Buhari to remove Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The governor, who stated this during the inauguration of Boards, Commissions and Governing Councils in the state, said it was only God that saved him from the failed impeachment plot.
Mrs. Omolara Ayeni and Mr. Owolabi Ajewole were also sworn in as chairmen of Ikole and Ijero local government areas, following the resignation of those earlier appointed by the governor.

Buhari’s Lopsided Appointments Split The North, His Supporters

Northern socio-political groups were on Friday divided over President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments, which have largely been criticised in the south as it has thus far favoured individuals from the northern part of the country.
Buhari had on Thursday approved the appointments of six persons including Babachir David Lawal from Adamawa State as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Mr. Abba Kyari from Borno State as his Chief of Staff.
The list takes the appointments made by the President so far to 30, with only seven of them coming from the southern part of the country and the rest from the North.
Socio-cultural groups and people from the southern region of the country have been united in their outrage over the appointments, but northerners have been split over the issue.
For instance, while the Chairman of the Northern Elders Council, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, was critical of the President’s appointments, the convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, Junaid Mohammed, said he was not in favour of zoning in the giving of political appointments.

MEET THE PRINCE WHO WOULD BE KING

They say the sun will rise and set, seasons will change their turns, and the youth will take over the old. The hourglass has been flipped, the king has gone to meet his ancestors and for Prince AdeyeyeEnitanOgunwusi it is only the beginning. Take notice, for his time has come.
Since the demise of the highly dignified Oba OkunadeSijuwade, Olubuse II, who in his capacity as the Oonirisa of the source brought a lot of fanfare and prestige to the already well revered stool that at one time or the other had been occupied by such illustrious personalities as Oduduwa&Oranmiyan, the race for the next Ooni has been on and the four ruling families; Osinkola, Ogboru, Giesi and Lafogido are now contenders.
A declaration document was signed by then Chairman of Chieftaincy Committee of Oranmiyan Local Government; P. O. Olaniyi. The document, which was forwarded for approval on September 14, 1979 and was signed on January 28, 1980 approving the rotation of the stool among the 4 ruling houses, in that order. The document had been prepared under the reign of the late Oba AdesojiAderemi who was from the Oshikola ruling family. The late Oba OkunadeSijuwade, the Olubuse II, being a product of the Ogboru ruling house, the next in line to ascend the throne must therefore come from the Giesi family. The Prince of the source, a fearless and self-made business man, Prince AdeyeyeEnitanOgunwusi, being the 4th direct descendant of the Giesi family, is in all context, the man for the throne.

PDP Slams Fashola Over N78m Website

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has berated former Governor Babatunde Fashola for spending N78.3m on the upgrade of his website, www.tundefashola.com.
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Taofik Gani, said this during an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday.
The Lagos State Public Procurement Agency had posted a report on its website stating that N78.3m was paid to a firm, Info Access Plus Limited, for the upgrade of Fashola’s website through the Office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor.
The PDP spokesperson said it was unfortunate that the governor could spend that amount of taxpayers’ money on a website that would serve him exclusively and not the people of Lagos State.
He said it was even more curious that the firm claimed it only received N10m as opposed to the N78.3m which was published on the state’s official website.

‘I Am Richer Than Bill Gates’ – Pastor Enoch Adeboye

Apparently referring to his spiritual endowment, the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that he is richer than one of the world’s richest men, Bill Gates.
Teaching the worshippers in the mission during the church’s 63rd Annual Convention on Saturday shortly before the Holy Communion Service on the topic; “Overflowing Cup,” Pastor Adeboye said that if Bill Gates needs shoes, he would have to go to the market to buy them, but that if he should announce that he needs shoes at the Redemption Camp, where the convention took place, the auditorium might not contain the shoes people would donate to him.
“I have houses in at least 188 countries of the world, where we have our churches, so I am richer than Bill Gates. Each time I visit these countries, my children would be struggling and saying ‘daddy, come and stay with me.’
“ If I announce here that tomorrow morning, I need a car to travel to the new auditorium, how many cars do you think would be made available to me by you my children? Those of you that do not have a car of your own, very soon, God will give you your own cars. So, I am appealing to you to become an incurable soul winner before you leave this convention ground and your cup will overflow,” he said.
The man of God had earlier used the occasion to warn that any of the mission’s provinces with the dirtiest hostels at the camp would not be allowed to attend next year’s convention, and advised that people should tidy up their dormitories.

BUHARI’S ‘CHANGE’ ANTHEM: THE PLACE OF WOMEN, CHILDREN AND THE PRESIDENT’S WIFE

The change mantra of the All progressives congress at the 2015 general election may have indeed earned president Muhammadu Buhari and his political party victory at the polls, yet the principle of governance goes beyond mere celebrations and takeover of political power, it is also not just about who gets what position or appointment, but about implementing and fulfilling the electoral promises made to the people during campaigns and rallies before and after the election. It is clear that expectations are high and many Nigerians are eager to see the real change that the APC government has promised, especially at a time when Nigerians unanimously voted out PDP’s 16 years reign, to entrust the leadership of the country in the hands of a new leader that has pledged to fight corruption, provide better security, create jobs  among other things. Implementing that manifesto is critical to the success and credibility of this government but what is more important is for the common man on the street to benefit immensely from the policies.
