Oil Theft: $13.7B Siphon Under NNPC, Says NEITI

Between the year 2009 and 2012, close to 160 million barrels of oil estimated at $13.7bn was lifted under the watch of the national oil giant, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, this was reported by the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, Hajiya Zainab Shamsuna-Ahmed.
Hajiya Zainab also said the subsidy payment from 2005 to 2012 suggested that $11.63bn had been paid to the NNPC but that “there is no evidence of the money being remitted to the federation account.”
The NEITI boss, who called on the Federal Government to privatize the refineries, stated this during a courtesy call on Governor Nasir el-Rufai, at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House, Kaduna, on Wednesday.
El-Rufai is among the four governors appointed by the National Economic Council to investigate the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and the Excess Crude Account managed under the regime of former president Goodluck Jonathan.
Part of the terms of reference was to decipher the N3.8trn not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC between 2012 and May 2015, as well as $2.1bn said to have been subtracted from the Excess Crude Account.

“You’re Better At Wine Drinking Than A Political Critic” Said Obasanjo To Soyinka

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo repeated that he maintains his view, communicated in his three-volume autobiography, My Watch, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Nobel laureate, prowess lies in wine matters than in political analysis.
In his book, Obasanjo wrote, “For Wole, no one can be good, nor can anything be spot-on politically except that which emanates from him or is ordained by him. His friends and loved ones will always be right and correct, no matter what they do or fail to do. He is surely a better wine connoisseur and a more successful aparo (guinea fowl) hunter than a political critic.”
Nonetheless, shortly after the book went public, last year December, Soyinka had, in a piece entitled, ‘Watch and Pray, Watch and Prey’, frantically chastised such a description (of him), calling Obasanjo ‘’an expert liar, who lies to boost his ego.’’
But in an interview granted a private television station, Channels, on a programme tagged, ‘Book Club’, Obasanjo, while holding on to his words, said what he wrote about Soyinka was purely his view, adding that Soyinka did not have to agree with him.

Speaking via a statement issued on Monday, July 20, 2015 by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said that the South South had already shown their approval of Jonathan’s stewardship by voting massively for him in the Saturday, March 28, 2015 presidential election.
He said: “Dr Goodluck Jonathan is no longer the president of Nigeria, he should be allowed to live a private life devoid of mudslinging from elder statesmen like Chief Obasanjo.
“Most importantly, Jonathan’s performance as a democrat has been widely acknowledged locally and internationally, particularly by President Mohammadu Buhari, who on many occasions acknowledged the role he (Jonathan) played in midwifing a peaceful and successful transition programme, thereby averting the feared crisis in the country.
“This is in contrast to Baba Obasanjo, who tried third term when he was about concluding his constitutional two terms. And who knows whether he would have tried fourth term if he had succeeded with his third term agenda?

EID-EL-FITR MESSAGE TO THE NATION FROM MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR, PRESIDENT, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMED FORCES, FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, JULY 16, 2015

Fellow Compatriots,
I greet and felicitate with you all, especially our citizens of the Islamic faith on this auspicious occasion of the 2015 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
I congratulate all those who have successfully completed the Ramadan fast in keeping with the injunction of our creator.
Although we have come to the end of this year’s month of Ramadan, I believe that a greater acceptance by Nigerians of its key lessons of self-denial and sacrifice will serve our dear country well as we strive to overcome our present challenges, undo the damage done by years of bad governance and accelerate the pace of national development.
Reviewing our dire circumstances and the many missed opportunities of the past, some commentators and observers have said that this is Nigeria’s last chance to get its act together and finally begin to fulfill its God-given potential for greatness.
While not going that far, I certainly believe that now, more than ever before, our country needs greater self-denial, sacrifice and patriotism from all of its citizens, if we are to quickly recover from our numerous problems and start moving in a positive direction.
This current period of our life as a nation offers us a great opportunity to break from the vicious triangle of insecurity, corruption and under-development. We must collectively resolve to seize this opportunity and unite to confront our problems.
I remain wholly committed to giving the required leadership towards undoing the wrongs of the past, ensuring that Nigeria truly begins to unlock its great potential and that the

Nigerians Losing Patience With Buhari -Nwosu, ADC National Chair

Chief Okey Nwosu is the National Chairman, African Democratic Congress (ADC). In this interview, he speaks on the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration and the fight against Boko Haram in the country.
What is your assessment of Buhari regime?

For a presidency that took four elections and unprecedented propaganda, loss of human lives, arson, and destruction of properties and national psyche, and close to stampeding the first Niger Deltan out of office, I am appalled that the Buhari government did not hit the ground running. This country was ridiculed just for it to appear as if with Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, the nation was going to collapse. I expected to see some sense of urgency. I expected to see clear agenda of purpose, and I expected the government to run with the mandate of the people with the change the people wanted to see, not to pocket the people’s trust and relax, or start planning. No time to lose.
You know HRH Sanusi Lamido once spoke of the “entrenched interests”. He said that these people were very powerful. If nothing has been done by the new government and the nation is as we experience it at the moment; it means that these “entrenched interests” wanted to terminate the Jonathan government and created all the confusions that seemed to challenge the Jonathan government. The state is auto-piloting on some of the structures that, that government put in place. That said, Nigerians are getting impatient with the slow pace and what appears to be political witch hunting.
I have also noticed quite a number of flip-flopping and what looks to be insensibility to the nation’s diversity in some of the president’s actions. But I am a very optimistic patriot. So, I am in favour of allowing the president more time. I will rather err on patience, than heat up the polity and see untoward consequences.

Fani-Kayode Mocks Tinubu Over NASS Crisis

After been exonerated of charges bordering on financial impropriety by the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, the Director of Media and Publicity, Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, says all his predictions about the Muhammadu Buhari administration have come to pass.

Specifically, Fani-Kayode, who is a former Minister of Aviation, mocked the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, over the crisis rocking the APC leadership, following the election of principal officers in the National Assembly.

A former interim National Chairman of the APC, Chief Bisi Akande, had alleged that the crisis rocking the federal legislative arm of government was being sponsored by some northern elements and oil barons.

Fani-Kayode, however, said on his official Facebook page that he had predicted a northern hegemony.

He said, “There is a resurgence of a clearly ethnic agenda which is designed to leave no one in doubt about who really owns Nigeria and who the slaves are.

“Another is the destruction and demystification of Bola Tinubu and his Yoruba loyalists by his erstwhile northern allies in the APC.
